- Researchers Read What Children Type Into AI Chatbots. One Day in Seven Included Violence. free short + detailed In a study of 3,363 US children and teens, most AI chats were for homework and questions, but 15 percent of the days children used an AI app included violent words, and another 15 percent included sexual role-play. Fifteen out of every 100 days a child used an AI chatbot app, the words typed included violence. That is the second most common thing researchers found after ordinary tool use, like asking for homework help. The study looked at 42,355 app-days from 3,363 children and teenagers aged 1 to 17 across the United States, collected between January and September 2025. Most of what children typed was practical. About 62 percent of the days involved using AI as a tool, for questions, writing, or solving problems.
- Chatbots Answer Teen Questions on Weight. The Advice Slips Toward Dieting. subscribe short + detailed A small study of 10 made-up teenagers and two free chatbots found helpful words about health mixed with weight-loss framing, and no links to regulated support. Your child can open a chatbot on a phone and ask the questions they would rather not bring to you. What it answers back is the subject of a new study. Researchers in the United Kingdom wrote scripts for 10 made-up teenagers, ages 10 to 15, some girls and some boys, with different body weights. The characters asked ChatGPT and Claude.AI about eating, weight and appearance. Some were simply curious. Some were upset after a comment about their weight. Two were written to seem like they might have an eating disorder.
"Like an ideal friend tailored just for me": a small study describes how heavy AI use can tighten around a teenager subscribe short + detailed The pattern comes from what 38 students in central China said about themselves, not from tests, and not from anywhere else.
Most AI Therapy Apps for Teens Say They Keep Secrets. Most Don't Show You Their Rules. subscribe short + detailed A review of 117 apps found many promise privacy and expertise, but six in ten had no privacy policy at all, and the researchers only read what the apps say publicly, not what happens when a teenager uses one.
Parents Ask AI About Sick Kids. Then They Decide What to Do With the Answer. subscribe short + detailed Thirty parents in Türkiye described how they use chatbots for their children. The study records what they said, not whether the advice helped or hurt. "I started using it when my child first got sick," one parent said.
