Two researchers at Stellenbosch Business School built two AI coaching chatbots. Both ran on the same platform, CoachBot.AI, and followed the same four-step coaching routine, GROW: Goal, Reality, Options, Will. The two differed in one section of the instructions behind them, the part describing coaching style. That section made up 8 percent of the instructions. One bot, D-Bot, was blunt: it suggested actions, gave examples and advised next steps. The other, N-Bot, asked open questions and let the user find their own answers.
