A small study of 33 Spanish teenagers found they treat location-sharing as normal care and deepfakes as the worst harm—but it can't say how common any of this is.
Ask a group of 16- to 18-year-olds about "virtual girlfriends" and they won't be confused. In a new study, teenagers in Spain described romantic chatbots as relationships without conflict, where the user stays in charge—choosing how the artificial partner looks, behaves and how available it is. Some girls said the appeal is a "perfect" partner who fits male expectations, and they judged these relationships as reproducing old, unequal patterns.
